Our KS3 & KS4 tour is designed to deliver curriculum-based education that enriches your students’ studies and explores the emergence of Gothic melodrama in the Victorian period. Students will discover key character types, the moral and social lessons they conveyed, and their relevance today. The tour includes a teacher pack and a guided experience at Bodmin Jail to enhance learning.

Step into Bodmin Jail, a perfect setting for Gothic storytelling. Built in 1779, its shadowy halls and eerie cells bring themes like darkness, innocence lost, and the supernatural to life. Students will explore how these Gothic conventions shaped literature and culture.

From The Castle of Otranto to Frankenstein, Gothic fiction has always captivated imaginations. Students will delve into Cornwall’s Gothic past and stories like Rebecca, discovering how isolation, morality, and fear of the unknown remain timeless elements of this genre. This tour inspires creativity and makes the Gothic come alive!
